Treasured: Wearing an Heirloom
Wearing an Heirloom
While going through some of her Grandfather's belongings, Rachel saw the ring that would become her daily reminder of the great man she knew and loved. The black onyx and gold gents ring features a small diamond in the center.
"I wear it everyday. Even though I've only had it for a short time, I feel naked without it now. It makes me smile every time I look at my hand. It makes me feel like I have him with me everyday."
As the saying goes, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." Where some may have seen something perfectly unbroken, Rachel saw the beauty of a ring that needed a simple sizing to gain new life.

"I love the simplicity of the design. It's a beautiful brushed gold with a deep black onyx plate atop and a tiny diamond in the middle. It's a bit more substantial of a piece than most my jewelry but I love the bit of edge it has, and the masculinity. "
"My grandfather was apart of the North Dakota Barley Council for many years and traveled the world throughout his job. He was one of those people that could go anywhere and know someone (not even just in ND but across the country). I always remember being in some random state and my grandfather running in to someone he knew. He was a very generous person and family meant everything to him. Extremely smart, funny and had some of the cheesiest jokes I've heard, but that was grandpa.Always a smile and a whit. "

This event was truly magical. The best part? I know that these mothers are having a Mother’s Day they will never forget. This event was truly based upon how you can put thought and meaning into a gift and produce a piece with even more significance.
I ended up with three designs, of which I had a very hard time choosing… But I eventually came to realize that I kept going back to the second design. It still provided the support for my engagement ring but added in visually appealing negative space with romantic curves. It is artsy like myself but doesn’t present as overwhelming.
As fine jewelers we can't fathom many reasons to not buy a genuine gemstone. But sometimes we find it helps to hear from a third party perspective. Jewelry Nerd isn't exactly an outsider to our industry, but she is the online champion of transparency and good information in Fine Jewelry. So we asked her to weigh in on Natural Gemstones specifically for USNA Class Rings.
