Walt & Livia (Proposal)

By Constance Polamalu February 21, 2017

The most famous princess in the world has a Sapphire engagement ring. Yet surprisingly, it is such a rare occasion for a couple to choose a Sapphire Engagement Ring many jewelers do not even offer them. We take pride in offering truly custom engement rings... enough about us.Today's featured couple steals the spotlight in every way... On February 10th, Walt asked Livia to marry him and we are obsessed with their love story.

Sapphire Engagement Ring

In His Words:

While the idea of getting engaged was not a complete surprise, as Livia assisted in picking out the ring, the proposal itself was. Livia knew the ring was on its way but she didn't exactly know when it would show up. I stalled her with excuses like, well the setting is  back ordered or I haven't heard any updates.

It was really important to me that an element of surprise remain in the proposal process. I mean surprises are totally awesome right?!

A few days before the 10th I knew Livia was going to be meeting her mother for lunch in Columbia. Once I heard about her lunch plans I knew I had to move fast. Fast forward about 187 text messages, 37 emails and 28 phone calls to Friday morning. I had managed to get everyone organized to meet a Clyde's in Columbia at noon.

With Livia and her parents seated in the restaurant, I walked through the front door, with my folks right behind me. As soon as Livia made eye contact with me she knew exactly what was about to happen.

Without hesitating I walked right up to the table and I asked Livia to turn and face me. At this point the entire restaurant fell silent, I got down on one knee and told her privately about how I couldn't wait to spend the rest of my life with her. Then I asked the big question, Will you marry me?! As soon as the words YES crossed her lips the whole place cheered!.......( I think I blacked out at this point) the rest of lunch was a blur!

It was an exciting process. If I could do it all over again I would do it the exact same way!

Heart Full of Love

Why We Love It!

It's not the most traditional, for a girl to be in on picking out her own ring. But it ensures she is getting what she wants. Livia is a brilliant visual artist, making the idea of picking the perfect ring for her blindly that much more daunting. This was also a big decision that catalyzes other big decisions, so to see a couple making it together shows that the two will probably always make big decisions together. Last but definitely not least Walt still kept the moment romantic and memorable. With both sets of parents present and a silent restaurant, this proposal must have been like somehting out of a movie.

Walt & Livia

How did they meet?
We met through mutual friends almost 5 years ago but, what's funny, is that we actually went to the same high school!  We went to a very large high school and were in different grades but, I always think we could have been passing each other in the halls, bumping into each other or even speaking!?

How did they know each other were "the One"?
We always say that our "weird" matches.  We are both very passionate, driven and loving individuals.  Never afraid to be ourselves and show our "weird", and lucky for us, our weird just matches :)

Walt & Livia

Holding Hands

And so another Engaged Adventure begins. We can't wait to see these two walk down the isle!

Did we mention that all the illustrations, calligraphy and mixed media are done by Livia?!?!?!

Kevin & Catherine (Proposal)

By Constance Polamalu February 15, 2017

The day after Valentine's Day can leave many of us with a Love Hangover... So, we have been saving this goody to remedy all the feelings that came and went with the passing of Valentine's Day.

Does Anything say "Love" quite like rose petals and a romantic proposal? Kevin & Catherine

It is official, we are obsessed with our customers! These two high school sweethearts turned long distance love birds will make your heart melt. Meet Kevin and Catherine.

In His Words:

Catherine and I have dated since our Junior year in high school - a little over 5 years. I'd known for a while now she's the one, but living out in Maryland while she stayed in Texas made things tough. We were both at home in San Antonio during the Christmas holidays and, after many hours in prayer, the timing felt right. We were walking around the Pearl Brewery area near downtown when I convinced her to go to the top floor of a building to checkout the sunset. Once there, I convinced her we should try and get on top of the roof above us for a better view. With the help of a ladder my brother had staged (along with the set up shown), we were able to get on top of the roof. Once she saw, she knew. At the center of the two stools is a cross I made her as a Christmas present during our first Christmas together - I want that to be the center of our relationship so I made sure I was able to get that there. We write letter in a journal that we mail back and forth so I wrote her a letter in the journal and had her read it once we sat down. By the time she looked up, I had got down on one knee. Don't really remember the rest, I think I sort of blacked out! But she said yes, some tears were shed, and then we met friends in family afterwards for a little party.

Why we Love it:

Kavin nailed the blending of adventure and sentiment in his proposal. The roof top alone was a huge win but the added details make it truly perfect. Marriage is not always only about the two people in the relationship. Families and beliefs play a huge role in the success of a partnership. Kevin brought both of those to his romantic escape within their home city. He trusted and relied on his brother to stage everything and he brought their shared religious beliefs to the start of their whole new life and adventure together. Also, they mail a jornal back and forth full of love letters!!!!! How amazing is that???

DOUBLE BONUS:

Kevin made his own ring box with wood Catherine brought back from another country!

Kevin & Catherine
Or as Kevin casually says,
"She served at a Young Life camp in the Dominican Republic last summer and brought me back a piece of wood (I've done carpentry on the side for a little over 10 years). Little did she know I took that wood and made it into the box I used to propose! All went well and she loves the ring."

Richard & Caroline (Proposal)

By Constance Polamalu January 24, 2017

Richard and Caroline

Each year, Zachary's customers pull out all the stops for epic proposals from sea to shining sea. As we look back on 2016, we would be looney if we didn't recognize our favorite proposal abroad! If one city in the world were to be named the capital of romance, Paris is bound to top the list. On August 7th, 2016 Richard brought Paris to a knee for Caroline in the most unforgettable single birthday a girl could dream of.

Richard and Caroline

In His Words:

This past Summer, I proposed to Caroline in front of the Eiffel Tower on August 7th, 2016. This is Caroline's birthday so I had a bunch of surprises for her before it culminated in the proposal. We started off the day by getting some breakfast at a cute patisserie near our apartment, and then we took the Metro over to the Eiffel Tower. I had made lunch reservations at the award-winning Michelin Star restaurant Le Jules Verne, which is located on the second level of the Eiffel Tower. We had a delicious 6 course meal that included crab meat, steak and potatoes, and delicious berry sorbet to name a few of the items. We walked around the Eiffel Tower's second level before taking our own personal lift back down to the ground floor. Caroline and I walked across a nearby bridge over the Seine River to reach the area I had planned to meet our wonderful photographer Gloria Villa that works for Kiss Me in Paris. When we reached our location, I saw Gloria in the distance and I proceeded to get down on one knee and tell Caroline how much I love her and want to spend the rest of our lives together. Gloria captured the moment perfectly and we spent the next hour taking amazing photographs nearby. Each second spent together was even more magical because we were now engaged. After our time ended with Gloria, we went to a park close by so we could call our parents and siblings to tell them of this magnificent occasion. Afterwards, we walked to the Arc de Triomphe and down the busy avenue of Champs-Elysees. We made a couple of stops a long the way such as the Disney Store and Laduree, where we enjoyed some celebratory champagne and macarons. We took the subway back and nice relaxing evening while enjoying the new life of being engaged. The day was absolutely perfect and I know we wouldn't change one thing about it. I chose to propose in Paris because it is Caroline's favorite city in the entire world. She would get teary-eyed just thinking about being able to spend time together there. When we finally decided last year to go to Europe, I knew this would be the perfect place to do it. The proposal would combine some of her favorite things like Paris, food, and me, so nothing could beat it. It is a memory we will cherish for the rest of our time. The next time we make it back to Paris, we will definitely go back to the place where we became engaged and share many laughs and tears reminiscing about such a magical moment in our lives.

Richard and Caroline

Why we Love it!

Audrey Hepburn said it best, "Paris, is always a good idea!" As much as we love spontaneous romance we always love to see a great plan come together. Richard thought of everything. He wrote a fairytale and waltzed Caroline straight through it page by page. We here it all the time in business, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" and if this proposal is any sign of the future ahead for Richard and Caroline they will have a storybook life with perfectly curated moments of joy and love.

Sophie & Brandon (Wedding)

By Constance Polamalu January 18, 2017

Twenty-sixteen, was filled with weddings dressed in Zachary's rings but one imparticular stands out amongst the crowd. On a magical day at Hevadu Vineyard Estates in Malibu, California a former Navy Midshipman, named Brandon married a stunning blonde beach volleyball player named Sophie. Naval Academy weddings always exude a certain old hollywood magic but this one was truly a fairytale!

Scott & Kristin (Proposal)

By Constance Polamalu January 11, 2017

At the beginning of a new year, people always have feelings about the year before. For some it was a year to never be forgotten, a year to be celebrated forever. Here is a look at one of our favorite proposals from 2016.

How it happened in Scott's Words:

"After hiking in the Shenandoah in the evening, I found a nice overlook in the dusk that seemed promising (I knew this is how I wanted to propose, just didn’t know the exact spot). Under the guise of taking a self timed couple’s photograph, Kristin set the camera to count down from ten seconds and then take ten photos, one per second. When she walked over to pose, I kneeled down and proposed! There were a series of 10 shots that show her surprise and eventually joy and a kiss!"

Why we love it:

Scott and Kristin prove that a perfect proposal doesn’t have to be elaborate. Amidst all the flashmobs, helicopters and full blown movie productions we see circulating under the hashtag #ProposalIdeas, a guy can really get overwhelmed with how or how not to propose. But just like "There's no wrong way to eat a Reeses..." Proposing is not one size fits all. The question and the answer are what will truly last a lifetime. Scott kept it classic, simple and intimate... And guess what?

She said "Yes!"

Birthday Gift Guide for January!

By Constance Polamalu December 31, 2016

It's January and that means it's a New Year but that also means despite the recent holiday gift exchanges some January babies are in need of more gifts! Don't let the January baby on your list know that you are completely fatigued from holiday shopping... Get that January born loved one something just as great as if their birthday wasn't directly after the holidays. At Zachary's some of our favorite designers have stunning jewelry designs that already feauture Garnets, which of course is the birthstone of the month!

Designer Jewelry Featuring Garnets

Fun Fact: You may recognize Garnet as a deep reddish purply color, but then there is a random green ring in the bottom right corner... Garnets actually come in many colors but some of the most prized colors are Green and Orange. When Green, garnets might go by the names of Tsavorite or Demantoid. When Orange, garnets may be labled Mandarin Garnet or Spessartine. So if you thought you didn't care for Garnets... I bet we can find you one to absolutely adore!

If you are loving Garnets but want something a little more custom than our designer selection, talk to your favorite Zachary's team member to design the perfect piece of jewelry for any age, or stylista.

Custom Garnet Jewelry

For a simpler side of January gifting consider a Zodiac pendant from Alex Woo. They come in Silver, 14k Gold or Diamond. The best part about any of Alex Woo's designs is how chic and interpretive each pendant is.

And of course, when all else fails... Reach for the Diamond Studs! They are never a bad idea.

"She has diamond studs."

"Then get her bigger ones."

Happy Birthday January Babies and Peaceful Gifting to those who love one!
